INFLUENCERS AND THE IMPACT ON FASHION INDUSTRY

With the trend of online shopping and the global rise of social media in the past decade, the retailing market has significantly changed its direction from marketing and advertising only on traditional media like TV or radio, towards social media platforms with Facebook and Instagram on the top. The trend of becoming an influencer or a blogger is also on the rise and many seem to be jumping on the bandwagon. Many amongst them have followings like never before and a significant influence on a mass level that has led many brands and retailers to change their conventional approaches to the latest influencer marketing. Not to forget the pandemic situation, which has continued to alter the consumer’s behavior from physical in-store shopping towards online shopping.

In the recent era, influencers play a crucial role when it comes to shopping decisions as their reach keeps on growing. Thousands to millions of fans have put their trust in the suggestions made by the influencer or their life choices, covering virtually every niche imaginable. And followers can be seen acting upon the reviews and advice presented by their favorite influencers on any specific product. If a review is bad the product sale just goes down-scale and vice-versa. The fashion industry has also been widely impacted by that. Fashion is subjective yet social media has opened numerous endless fashion possibilities, with a display of high-quality images, a showcase of garments and designs, mixing and matching the styles, offering a fashionista place where influencers can immerse themselves in the latest trends and showcase themselves. Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Olivia Palermo, Chiara Ferragni, and Billie Eilish are to name a few influencers who have had a heavy influence on the fashion industry. Many brands have started to collaborate with the influencers, and it should be a no-shocker that most of the high-fashion brands are just known through their presence on social media.
